Growing Your Business During COVID-19

COVID-19 is transforming the business landscape as we know it. It’s a scary and overwhelming time, but despite the changes, you can still make the best of it.

Even though being on lockdown may feel like it’s stunting your growth, don’t let it defeat you. This is actually a great time to learn how to adapt your business practices. Don’t slow down! Now’s the time to forge ahead. In business, you have to learn to go with the flow.

Onwards and Upwards

A global health crisis probably wasn’t factored into your annual forecasts. It’s a hard time for everyone, mentally, emotionally, and financially. You may want to back away, to retreat into a corner and lick your wounds. But while it’s okay to take a moment to assess the damage, now is not the time to fade away completely. Your vendors, your customers, and your employees want and need to hear from you.

Keeping in touch with your employees will help them feel connected and cared for. Reaching out to your customers will keep you relevant, caring, and reliable. While being forthcoming may feel vulnerable, keep in mind that everyone else is in the same boat. You won’t have all the answers, but what you can do is let people know that you are keeping abreast of the situation. You can’t manufacture financial recovery, but you can manifest leadership ability and trust in your organization.

Hope for the Best, Plan for the Worst

Have a contingency plan. Things will get better, but before that happens, they’ll probably continue to go downhill. Anticipate the worst-case scenario and prepare for it. You’ll be much better off if it comes to that. Put a strategy in place for if you or your employees become sick. Know what you’ll do and how you’ll communicate it to your team. Have sick leave packages at the ready. It’s essential to have a crisis communication plan in place if worse comes to worst.

Innovate for Success

Don’t let the circumstances prevent you from creating new content, ideas, products, and processes. You’ll need to innovate to adapt to new market trends, but if you’ve been in business awhile, you know that this is necessary at any stage. Use the resources that are available to you. COVID-19 has given rise to remote working technologies, so learn how to use them to your advantage.

Even after the worst of COVID is past us, these methods will probably linger. Familiarize yourself with them now, so you’re proficient later. Ultimately, an entire reworking of the system might not be a bad thing. We’re on the brink of a new world, and the sooner we adapt to it, the sooner we advance with it.

The way your business adapts to the current world climate will determine your future success. We know that things won’t be like this forever, but at the moment, we can’t predict exactly what the future holds. So seize the moment, and let’s make the best of what we have right now.
