Round Rock, in conjunction with Austin, was recently named by Nerdwallet as the number one city for young entrepreneurs and was also highlighted in Forbes! Being located in this great city, we aren’t surprised, but we are excited that Round Rock is getting the recognition it deserves. This community has welcomed entrepreneurs and small businesses owners with open arms and continues to encourage them to locate and grow their companies here.
How Did Round Rock Become the Best of the Best for Young Entrepreneurs?
According to NerdWallet and Forbes, the criteria required for this ranking was the age of the local population (ranged between 25 and 34 years old), as well as local economy, cost of living and Small Business Administration loans distributed per 100,000 residents of the cities. Another large factor was the education and professional level of the city’s population.
Round Rock Welcomes Higher Education Facilities
With the technology industry booming in the area, Round Rock has definitely made strides toward encouraging a higher-educated base of residents. Taking measures to ensure this, the City of Round Rock has integrated higher education into the fabric of the community with an Austin Community College (ACC) campus, Texas State University campus and Texas A&M Health Science Center. These campuses are located in Northeast Round Rock and boast over 5,000 students at ACC, thirteen bachelors and twelve masters degrees available at Texas State, in addition to third and fourth year clinical training opportunities at the Round Rock clinical campus through the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
Round Rock Has a Plan to Support and Encourage Local Entrepreneurs
A new strategy to attract and support entrepreneurs called Rev Up Round Rock was developed by the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce early in 2016. The strategy boasts a commitment to local business, offering the support of the chamber to the business owners. Round Rock is looking to fill gaps in what the Chamber’s Vice President calls the “entrepreneur ecosystem”. The Chamber is also looking ahead to “encourage development and expansion of entrepreneur support resources” and “ensure the availability of one-on-one advisory services”. Their aim is to build a community of entrepreneurs within the larger Round Rock community that can count on the City and each other for support and growth.
