Williamson named top health and wellness county in Texas. Furthermore the Austin / Round Rock area leads Texas in overall health. It doesn’t make just business sense to work in Austin / Round Rock, it is actually healthy.
The Austin area leads the state’s major metropolitan areas in overall health, according to the recently released Gallup Healthways Well-Being Index.
The report provides a multifaceted view of the well-being of Americans across all 50 states and 189 major metropolitan areas. Austin came in at No. 34 for overall health, followed by El Paso at No. 50, Dallas at No. 61 and Houston ranking No. 74 among the major metros across the country.
The Austin region placed 18th for life evaluation. The life evaluation portion asked survey participants to examine their current situation and anticipate what they expect life to look like in another five years.
Austin performed well in the healthy behavior category at No. 68, and took No. 75 out of the 189 major metros for basic access, which measured the participant’s ability to access clean water, food, a physician and adequate health insurance.
Williamson County was named the top county in Texas for health and wellness, according to another recent study. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute named Williamson the healthiest county in the state, while Travis County fell four spots to No. 12.
